Hospitality with tradition
The Beginning
In the early 1900s, the house was built as "Landhaus Alpenruhe" by the Spielmannsau innkeeper, Johannes Thannheimer, as a home with a small farm.
Later, his daughter Marianna, a hunting assistant in Oberstdorf, and her husband Hans Sollacher took over the house. Hans Sollacher was at the time personal hunter to Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria. In addition to the small farm, the two also rented out simple guest rooms.
Their son Johannes married Karolina. They had three sons: Hans, Herbert, and Ernst. Ernst remained at Alpenruhe and, after his mother's early death, continued the business with his father Johannes.
In 1973, Ernst Sollacher and his wife Christel took over the house and ran it for many years as "Gästehaus Alpenruhe." Their children, Roland, Claudius, and Marieluise, were born. Rooms with breakfast were offered, and later, small evening meals were also offered. Our current senior manager is a good cook, and soon, hot meals were also available in the evenings.
That's how it continued:
For more than two decades, the Alpenruhe - which was in dire need of renovation - was modernized and redesigned in several construction phases by Ernst and Christel, with considerable creative energy.
1997 was a fateful year. The soul of the house, Ernst Sollacher, passed away. Ernst was a person who always cared for the well-being of his guests. Ernst was a host with heart and soul, he was very popular, and he is greatly missed by everyone.
Despite the painful loss, his wife Christel and daughter Marieluise continued to run the Alpenruhe in his spirit.
In 2005, Carsten Fiedler joined the family business as junior manager and head chef, and senior manager Christel handed the Alpenruhe over to her daughter Marieluise. With this generational change, the "Alpenruhe Guesthouse" became the "Hotel Alpenruhe," and half-board was introduced.
