Our Hotel Alpenruhe is located directly on the perfectly maintained Oberstdorf cross-country ski trails. Step out of the ski room, cross just 20 meters over the open field, and you’re on the 76 km extensive cross-country network around Oberstdorf, leading into the charming Stillachtal and Trettachtal valleys. The cross-country stadium in Ried, the venue for the 2021 Nordic Ski World Championships, is about a 20-minute walk away.
Nearby, the well-known Allgäu Ski resorts (Nebelhorn, Fellhorn/Kanzelwand, Söllereck, uvm.)
offer 128 kilometers of slopes with difficulty levels suited for every skiing ability. By car, you only need a few minutes to reach them.

On approximately 140 km of well-cleared and safe winter hiking paths, you can enjoy the beauty and untouched nature of Oberstdorf and its surrounding villages and side valleys while leisurely winter hiking or Nordic walking.

Right in the Heart of Oberstdorf’s Hiking Network
If you want to enjoy the fresh mountain air while exploring the surroundings, we have plenty to recommend. Delightful walks through blooming meadows or snowy landscapes and along small traffic-free paths around the spa town of Oberstdorf, situated at 815 meters elevation. Here you’ll find over 200 km of well-maintained hiking trails at three altitude levels, catering to all difficulty levels. Daily guided hikes, diverse Nordic walking routes, challenging mountain tours, and daring climbing excursions are offered locally. For those wanting even more adventure, there are outdoor excursions with guides to the peaks or rafting trips on the Iller River. The climbing park and indoor climbing hall also offer plenty to discover. There’s so much to explore!
At Alpenruhe, you can rent touring bikes or securely store your own bike in our lockable bike shed. Good to know: Electric bike rentals and battery swap stations are also available in Oberstdorf and the surrounding area.
If you prefer a more comfortable option, escape the valley floor with one of the 8 mountain cable cars in Oberstdorf and the nearby Kleinwalsertal.
