Over 200 kilometers of well-maintained hiking trails await you here, spread across three altitude levels and offering routes of all difficulty levels. Daily guided hikes, a variety of Nordic walking paths, challenging mountain tours, and daring climbing routes are all available in Oberstdorf.

If you're looking for more adventure, join outdoor excursions with a guide to the peaks or go rafting on the Iller River. The local climbing garden and indoor climbing hall also have plenty to offer. There’s so much to discover!

At the many bike rental shops in Oberstdorf, you can rent touring bikes or e-bikes to explore the surrounding valleys, steep alpine roads, forest paths, or gently sloping, specially designed cycle routes. Good to know: Battery swap stations for e-bikes are available in and around Oberstdorf.

For a more relaxed experience, take one of the eight mountain cable cars in Oberstdorf and the nearby Kleinwalsertal to escape the valley floor. Mountain Railways Included: For guests of Alpenruhe and Haus Edelraute, this service is available free of charge from May to November—ride as often as you like, every day!

Hotel Alpenruhe is located right by the perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails of Oberstdorf. Just step out of the ski room, cross 20 meters of open field, and you're already on the 76 km-long trail network that winds through the scenic Stillach and Trettach valleys. Good to know: our "local trail" connects directly to the cross-country ski stadium in Ried, the venue for national and international competitions and the 2021 Nordic Ski World Championships.

Nearby, 128 kilometers of ski slopes in the renowned Allgäu ski areas (Nebelhorn, Fellhorn/Kanzelwand, Söllereck, and more) offer terrain for every skill level. By car, you're only minutes away from the action.

In the sunny and peaceful southern part of Oberstdorf—where our hotel is located—you’ll also find the start of some of the most beautiful winter hiking trails. Over 140 kilometers of cleared and well-maintained winter paths lead you to breathtaking spots in the heart of nature and invite you to enjoy a relaxing winter escape.

Even for non-skiers, Oberstdorf has much to offer beyond scenic walks: multiple toboggan runs with lifts, horse-drawn sleigh rides into the side valleys, Bavarian curling (Eisstockschießen), and more. Snowshoes are also available for rent in many parts of Oberstdorf.
